Fajr fest to pay tribute to 3 Iran artists

Fajr Film Festival 2018 is set to pay homage to three Iranian artists at the upcoming inaugural.

In the opening ceremony of the Fajr Film Festival, veteran actor Akbar Abdi and famed voice actor Manouchehr Esmaili, as well as noted cineaste Mohamad Ali Najafi will be honored on Thursday.

After finishing high school in 1980, Akbar Abdi began acting in amateur plays.

He shot to fame by appearing in TV series such as ‘Boro Bia Neighborhood’ (In 1982) and ‘I’m Late for school Again’ (1986).

Abdi appeared in comedies such as ‘Major Mayhem’ (1984), ‘The Man Who Became a Mouse’ (1985), ‘The Tenants’ (1986), ‘The Grand Cinema’ (1988) and ‘O’ Iran’ (1989). 

The actor has appeared in more than 120 movies and series.

Abdi’s flexibility allows him to take on diverse roles such as the role of a child and middle-aged man in ‘The Magical Journey’(1986)  and a mentality-disabled boy in ‘Mother’ (1989) as well as playing roles of a man and a woman in ‘Snowman’ (1994).

The inaugural will showcase three films on these notable figures in Iranian cinema.

Established in 1982, the Fajr Film Festival celebrates cultural exchange, displays creative achievements of highly acclaimed cineastes and pays tribute to local and international films.

Since its establishment, the Fajr Film Festival has played a vital role in the development of Iranian Cinema.

Supervised by Iran’s Ministry of Culture, the festival hosts veteran directors and new filmmakers from Iran every year.

The 36th edition of the Fajr Film Festival is slated for February 1-11, 2018, in Iran.
